Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias

Plaza Patrona Canarias The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias (Square of the Saint Patron of the Canary Islands) is one of largest plazas in the marine center of Canarias in Tenerife. It is located near to the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (Saint Patron of Tenerife). This plaza is the meeting place for pilgrims to celebrate the most important local holidays. The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias was classified as “Plaza de Interés Insular" by the Cabildo de Tenerife in 1994.

The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias is a tourist attraction, so there are many bars, restaurants and cafeterias around. The local people work hard to have a well-maintained plaza. Locals try to keep a good environment, although there aren’t several green zones. This plaza features several water fonts and a parking zone. The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias has been remodeled several times, but it still conserves its own original design.

Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias People can find nine statues of the menceyes who governed the nine pre-Hispanic kingdoms of Tenerife. Locals appreciate these statues; they represent an essential part of their culture. Its government usually organizes the local festivities in this plaza; many travelers arrive to Tenerife in order to enjoy these festivities. The Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias is a good place to begin your adventure through Tenerife.
